The Only Thing Left To Do Is Start!

Hey, friends!

First off: welcome to my blog! Thanks so much for popping by. I figure the best way to keep in touch with you guys is to start a blog and let you know how things are going. I wanna post studio pictures here as the album progresses, too. Once I hit the road, I know I'll have more interesting shit to talk about. For now, just bear with the inner ramblings of this wannabe folkstar.

A lot of you may know me as William Prince, the student. For as long as I can remember I've been an academic. I've been in school since nursery and completed a degree in Microbiology at the University of Manitoba. I was so certain my life's path was laid out for me, as I was positive becoming a doctor was the way to go.

However, as this lust for music began to take over my very soul, I realized, you need to do the things that make you happy RIGHT NOW. We have about 85 years if we're lucky and I've used 24 of them already.

So what is happy?

I addressed this question the other day as I was sitting out at my friend's farm finalizing the list of songs that will make into the studio and onto my album. Music makes me happy. It's almost divine.

It doesn't matter how the day is going, sitting and creating music is what I'd love to do with this life of mine. Nothing beats the feeling of seeing a person react positively to something you've created. My heart and soul goes into the music I make and I'd love to share it with the world.

So, how do I get there?

Being a musician feels very much like being a salesman. We are constantly trying to sell ourselves to the masses and at times you feel like shaking people (politely, of course) and screaming, "Please give a shit! Please listen!"

I am determined to make people give a proverbial shit about my music. Something has ignited in my soul and I truly believe I am meant to be someone. I wanna be Ray LaMontagne. I wanna be Mat Kearney, Billy the Kid and The Gaslight Anthem all rolled into one. Appreciated by true music lovers. Appreciated by you guys! I believe my "fans" are smart. The underground exists and soon all that will matter is the music. Fans will decide what is "good" and things will one day return a state of integrity.

One day, when the gimmicks wear off, when the boys in make-up run out of ways to say "I'd die for you", when people can't take anymore autotune, we will revert to a state of realism where true, meaningful substance will be what sticks to peoples' ribs.

I'm not saying I have the answers or even the songs to do it. All I know is that I'm trying and Billy the Kid is leading the fight.

The last thing I want is fame. Fame is but a by-product of success. I'd love to be successful in this journey I am taking. The terrifying part is, becoming a successful musician isn't like studying to become a doctor. There are no guarantees and just because I do the work, doesn't mean I get the spoils of a hard fought battle.

Basically, all I'm asking is for you to give a shit. There is so much good music out there that needs to be supported and brought to the surface.

Please say no to Justin Bieber and pretty much everything MuchMusic continues to cram down your throat.

Music can change lives. It's already changed mine for the better.

Here are some artists you need to hear:

Billy the Kid - She's just so honest and humble. http://www.billythekidonline.com/

The Gaslight Anthem - "The '59 Sound" may be one of the greatest albums of all time.

Ray LaMontagne - "Trouble" is already historic.

Alexi Murdoch - "Time Without Consequence" helped shape me into who I am now.

Mat Kearney - "City of Black and White" will restore your faith in music. Simply beautiful.

So, my friends! I challenge! Listen up and listen well! I invite you all into my journey and I hope you'll come along for the ride. The only thing left to do is start!
